Chan Chee Kong Joseph

Joseph is heading the Nexus Reintegration Service under the AMKFSC Community Services.  He is a Registered Social Worker with the Singapore Association of Social Workers. Joseph’s interest is in marital therapy; he has been trained in the Gottman Method in Marital Therapy Level 3. Drawing from his pastoral studies and psychology, Joseph explored the effects of religion on young adults and advocated for spirituality as a natural resource for building personal resilience among counsellors.

Prior to his current tenure, he was heading a Family Service Centre for about four and a half years. Before that, he headed the Family Resource Centre at the Prison Link Centre which provides a one-stop information and referral service, and casework service to prison inmates, prison inmates’ families, and released offenders. As well, Joseph has fifteen years of social work experience in the disability sector that encompassed casework and counselling, vocational assessment, and social entrepreneurship.

As Chairman of the Family Violence Work Group (Ang Mo Kio Region), Joseph participated in the Family Violence Dialogue Group led by the Ministry of Social and Family Development and the Singapore Police Force. Joseph was active in a practice research coalition led by the National Council of Social Services. He piloted a project to facilitate the reintegration of released drug offenders back into the community. To grow in scholarship in counselling and community work, Joseph has embarked on a Doctor of Education in Community Care and Counselling with Liberty University, USA.
